Park bench salvage


Middlesex Rec asked us to look at the salvagability of a bench that was broken and found dumped in the woods.

We were able to adapt the original design to work around and repair the broken parts, clean up the lichens and mold, rebuild, stain, and waterproof it into a fresh bench to go back into service:


The original design was a top-heavy, church-pew style:


We disassembled it:


And cut 6" off of both ends to remove rotted material:


We re-assembled the original style and pressure washed it to get a look at the quality of the remaining wood:


We determined that two of the seat/back boards didn't have enough life left in them, so removed them from the design. The back was modded to accommodate the changes, the remaining parts were then sanded, stained, and waterproofed.
