Bookcase-ish object design process


Because we work with found or reclaimed materials, most of our design work involves thinking with our hands - laying out the materials in real time and space:



To do this in 3D requires a number of clamps and a lot of patience. As I'm (this is unruly-e musing) looking at the above images, I see that 1 x 6s have worked their way into the design. They entered as simply convenient - they make really handy stand-ups that fit easily into the grip of the shop clamps. But in the end, they make both appropriately sized and shaped dividers and top-support elements.
